What you need to get into Competitive CS:GO
Setup CS: GO Properly
Config, Settings and Launch Options
Step 1. Delete your CSGO folder.
Steam > Steamapps > Common > Counter-Strike Global Offensive > CSGO (If you want to save anything in the folder, Demos, Maps, Screenshots, do so before deleting it.) The reason for deleting the CSGO folder is to get rid of all your skins, mods, cheats, whatever crap you have in there needs to be gone.
Step 2. Validate and Reacquire Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Files
Right click Steam icon > Library > Right Click on Counter-Strike Global Offensive in library > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache (This will download a clean base for the game to start from.)
Step 3. Exit Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
CS:GO must be closed while putting in new CFG’s
Step 4. Download Official Netcode CFG
Official Netcode CS:GO CFG
Step 5. Place autoexec.cfg file into your CFG folder
Steam > Steamapps > Common > Counter-Strike Global Offensive > CSGO > CFG (This CFG will set your game to optimize bullet registration, net you higher FPS, and remove most of the unneeded graphics settings.)
Step 6. Launch Options
Right click Steam icon > Library > Right Click on CS:GO in library > Properties > Set Launch Options > Type “-console -novid -freq 120 +exec autoexec.cfg -high” in the box. It makes the console open upon launch, disables the video upon launch, sets your refresh/hz to 120, executes the autoexec.cfg and sets CSGO to high priority.
Your Peripherals Setup
Mouse, Mousepad, Headset, Keyboard and Monitor
You need a good mouse, the Razer DeathAdder has been the best mouse for the past 5 years or so used by many of the worlds best CS and CS:S players such as AZK, DaZeD, PEX, caseyfoster, RATTLESNK.
-Best sensor (New 4g Sensor)
-Comfortable grip style (Rubber Side Grips)
-Sweatless Palm Texture

We recently switched to a Razer Goliathus along with a few of VERYGAMES players and it’s amazing. I never realized how much difference a mouse pad can make.
-Pixel-precise targeting and tracking
-Large ergonomic design
-Rubber backing for secure grip and stability
Keyboards are pretty standard, but there are 2 very important attributes to a keyboard. The first thing is, it needs to be comfortable for you and also have the ability to have multiple keys pressed at once. This is better explained in the video review by caseyfoster below. The Razer BlackWidow is Razers pride and joy when it comes to keyboards as it is the most solid mechanical gaming keyboard there is.
-Mechanical key switches increase stroke speed
-Solid sturdy design to ensure stability
-Windows Key block ability

The most important part of your headset is going to be the noise canceling. So find a good headset with a decent microphone, good noise canceling and good sounding headphones. The Razer Tiamats are said to be very noise canceling, great mic and amazing sound.
-Full audio customization

Monitor: Setup Mouse Properly
For a monitor you really want any 120hz LCD, they are a bit pricey, in the $200-500 range. If you cannot afford a 120hz LCD, next best thing is a high hz CRT monitor. They are a bit older and chunky, but still perform just as good, if not better than current 120hz LCDs. The lower MS the better.
-Faster response time
-Customizable colors/contrast and gamma
In-game/Windows Sensitivity and Mouse accel
Step 1. Use 6/11 Windows sensitivity
Start Menu > Control Panel > Mouse Settings > Pointer Options > Make sure bar is in the middle
Step 2. Disable Mouse Acceleration
(This will make your mouse movements not dependent on speed, but rather the distance the mouse has traveled) For windows 7 users you need to install and use Mark C’s Windows 7 Mouse fix. This will make sure your aim is consistent and there is no negative or positive acceleration.
Step 3. DPI (Dots per Square Inch)
Your mouse should have the option to change its DPI, set it 450-500 DPI depending on the mouse. The reasoning behind this is mentioned below.
Step 4. In-Game Sensitivity
People will argue that sensitivity is just preference, they are somewhat right, BUT as you can see here in a complete Pro player hardware/setting document, there is a common theme with the WORLDS BEST players. They use anywhere between 1.3-3.2 depending on their DPI. So pick something in that range and you will be set.
Deathmatch, Scrim/War and LeaguesDeathmatch
First find a good Deathmatch server (something under 90 ping) Use your newly acquired gear and settings mentioned above in these servers. Deathmatch is a great entry way into competitive play but is still fun to play casually. Use Deathmatch servers to help work on your aim, positioning, gun control and overall knowledge of the game. Practice for 30-50 minutes with the deagle, usp, glock, ak/m4 or awp based on whatever main gun you prefer. The reason for the small selection of guns, is these are the main guns used in competitive play. The whole point of a deathmatch is to get you into the most amount of gun fights in the shortest amount of time in hopes of improving your aim. Watch this video by Pro player DaZeD who teaches you how to aim below.
